Discovering a stack of the magazines at a flea market in Kingston, Lynes started writing the poems during the winter of 2008. She set aside her magazines and poems in order finish her novel The Factory Voice, a tale of northern Ontario women building airplanes during WWII. It was taking a burlesque class that refueled her passion for the material which had inspired her years previously and she once again began studying the history of the pioneers of this art form. This time it was Burlesque.

You don often pick up a collection of poetry and find a centrefold. Jeanette Lynes new book, Archive of the Undressed, is a little different, though.

Mind you, the centre pages of Archive of the Undressed only reveal the silhouette of a woman, propped up on one elbow in a hither pose, but the visual poem is indeed a centrefold. While the poems themselves are primarily open form poems, a few are written in prose.
can Playboy magazine, which is a visual prompt, have some ekphrastic writing about it? she said. I wrote Ekphrastic which is about Dorothy Stratton, a Canadian who was a centrefold and became a huge celebrity who was murdered by her husband. writes passionately of The Last interview of Betty Page, a poem inspired by the pin up legend final interview in which she wouldn allow herself to be filmed or photographed.
